The financial woes continue for the Postal Service, as the independent panel that oversees the USPS turned down the agency's request to increase the price of stamps. Meanwhile, the volume of mail continues to decline. After a peak in 2006 of 213 billion pieces, mail volume is expected to fall to 150 billion pieces over the next ten years. The Postal Service Office of Inspector General asked the George Mason University School of Public Policy to examine the financial sustainability of the Postal Service under various volume scenarios. Joining us to talk about what they found is Renee Sheehy, an economist with the Office of the Inspector General at the Postal Service.
